It has a special focus on the aging population and the efforts of State Units on Aging, Area Agencies on Aging, and Native American aging service programs that are funded by the Older Americans Act Title VI Grants for Indian Tribal Organizations.

DEPARTMENT OF ELDER AFFAIRS STATE OF FLORIDA (State Unit on Aging)
State Units on Aging (SUAs) are designated state-level agencies that develop and administer state plans that advocate for and provide assistance, including home modifications or repairs, to older residents, their families, and adults with physical disabilities. SUAs administer funds, including Older Americans Act funds, which may be used to support home modification or repair services through local Area Agencies on Aging and other state and local entities.

Community Care for the Elderly (CCE) Program
The program provides community-based services organized in a continuum of care to help functionally impaired elders live in the least restrictive yet most cost-effective environment suitable to their needs.

Home Care for the Elderly (HCE) Program
The HCE program supports care for Floridians age 60 and older in family-type living arrangements within private homes as an alternative to institutional or nursing home care. Subsidies are provided that may cover ramps and home accessibility modifications.

Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Program (SMMC)
In 2011, the Florida Legislature created a new program called the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program. Because of this program, the Agency for Healthcare Administration (AHCA) and Department of Elder Affairs changed how some individuals receive their long-term care from the Florida Medicaid Program. There are two different programs that make up the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care: 1)The Long-Term Care (LTC) Managed Care Program,
2)The Managed Medical Assistance (MMA) Program.Medicaid recipients who qualify and become enrolled in SMMC LTC will receive long-term care services from a long-term care managed care plan.

Florida Alliance for Assistive Services & Technology
FAAST is a program designed to provide assistive technology to Floridians with disabilities and their loved ones. This program offers a range of activities, including device loans, demonstrations, reutilization, and training, to ensure Floridians have access to the latest in assistive technology. Additionally, FAAST provides information and assistance, as well as a financing program available statewide.

This Data Brief highlights key findings from the 2019 National Survey of Area Agencies on Aging on how Area Agencies on Aging are providing and funding home modification and repair activities. It was developed by the USC Fall Prevention Center of Excellence in partnership with the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging as part of the Administration for Community Living project, “Promoting Aging in Place by Enhancing Access to Home Modifications.”

Program Designed for Older Adults Living in the Community
It offers the evidence-based fall prevention program, A Matter of Balance. This educational program is targeted to older adults who are concerned about falling, have fallen in the past, or have restricted activities due to fear of falling. Topics include conducting safety checks of the home and the Agency provides a home assessment checklist for participants.

Housing program
The Housing Department provides safe and sustainable housing opportunities that preserves and expand the communities of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. The Housing Department provide homeownership opportunities, emergency home repairs and rental housing for Tribal Members through a variety of programs. The goal is to develop quality sustainable housing development in all Tribal Communities, which fosters a full and rich residential quality of life.

Minor Home Repairs
The Area Agency of Broward County’s Minor Home Repair program targets low-income older homeowners over the age of 60. Services include carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other minor repairs that preserve the health and safety of clients.
